Run a Command on the Phone by Way of Squeezing (Grip UI)

Along with the increasingly widespread use of smartphones with a screen display width, a new question arises about the other functions of the device, in addition to seeing the video content in a more comforting portion of course.

Issues such functions becomes a crucial factor in Japan, where the majority of the population depend their transportation needs through public transport, which is generally used for holding one hand and the other hand is used to operate the phone, either for regular browsing or reading an important email when they are on their way to the each work.

Today the research division of the company the largest mobile operator in Japan, NTT DoCoMo showed off a touch-based interface technology recently dubbed as 'Grip UI,' and is intended as a solution to the above problem.

By using a number of sensors on the sides and back of the device, the user will now be possible to perform a number of standard commands on their mobile phones just by squeezing them.
The demo uses a Panasonic Eluga P-06D mobile phones that have been modified, and one of the crew of The Verge reports that he was able to operate a number of features such as unlock, open a web browser, access your bookmarks, activate voice search, as well as various other commands, just by doing some combination of tapping the side of the Eluga Panasonic phones.

The users will also be possible to configure their devices, map out some new commands by using some combination of pressure from the fingers. The biggest problem may be just a matter of remembering what combination must be pressed to activate each command.

The demo runs smoothly (with a record number of responses to commands are still a bit slow), but given the Grip UI is still a prototype, it will still take a long time to see these features are present in a variety of smartphones.
